Hair loss is one of the most ordinary problems that bring dogs to animal hospital.
This is a common problem in all the Southern States. Even a solitary flea can cause this problem and the flea or its waste can be very tough to find. This is mostly true in dark haired dogs. Hair loss that happens on the top of the dog and creates a triangle of hair loss, with the widest part of the triangle at the bottom of the tail and the point somewhere between the bottom of the tail and the shoulder blades, is generally due to flea bite or mosquito bite hypersensitivity. Imidocloprid is a very good flea manage product, so it seems somewhat unlikely that flea bite allergy is the problem, unless you live in a place where your beagle is exposed to new fleas on a persistent basis or unless there is a problem with the use of the product, such as too numerous bathing, application of the wrong size of the medication or giving it orally instead of applying it topically. |
